Elyse Martin
Northbrook, Illinois

Elyse Martin is a Chicago born artist who has taught in the inner city since 1973. Throughout her career she has savored the excitement and accomplishments of her students, many of whom have participated in national juried art exhibitions and won a variety of local and national art competitions. Her students have won the premiere student cover art competition sponsored by the Chicago Bulls Educational Development Foundation for seven consecutive years.

Elyse’s work is now inspired by and focused on the people close to her. She translates their energy into powerful, psychological images that incorporate paint, photo transfer, and encaustic to create lush, personal landscapes. Collaborating with artist Jose Custodio, she completed a sixty-foot mural at Jordan Community School in Chicago celebrating the achievement of former student and Olympic Gold Medalist Shani Davis. Most recently, Elyse did an encaustic painting of Mrs. Deloris Jordan, mother of basketball great Michael Jordan. Mrs. Jordan has earmarked the painting for an as yet undisclosed museum in the Carolinas. Elyse has also consulted extensively with Crayola Corporation.
